A green home for good!

It started off initially with just a goal.  A goal of wanting to give back to the community where we live, work and play and it quickly became so much more!

The goal was large.  Homes by Dickerson set out to raise $100,000 for the Mix 101.5 Radiothon for Duke Children’s Hospital from the construction and donations of one of their homes.  But it would not be like any other home they have ever built in 35 years.  This home would be the 2012 Miracle Green Home and would touch the lives of everyone who helped build it, contribute to it, as well as help those treated at Duke Children’s Hospital.

Just as Duke Children’s Hospital aligns themselves with the best doctors and surgeons in the world, Homes by Dickerson looks to align themselves with the best homeowners, vendors, trade partners, and agents in the Triangle.  Sharing similar values of excellence, innovation, leadership and advocacy; they knew that together the project could not fail.

George’s Grant in North Raleigh would be the perfect setting for this life-changing Miracle Green Home.  A 1.6 acre wooded backdrop for the River Forest’ to be built on Lot 6.  14604 Norwood Road would quickly become not just a place, but a home filled with love, joy and hope.  All 3800 square feet would provide an outpouring of support for Duke Children’s.  Vendors, trade partners, local businesses and real estate agents went above and beyond to make their contributions to the home and the fundraising total continued to rise.   Many shared their personal stories or stories of friends and families that have traveled from all over the world to be treated at Duke and we are so fortunate to have Duke Children’s Hospital right here in the Triangle.

Homes by Dickerson is committed to building all of their homes with high performance green features and this home is no different.  The River Forest bears the Energy Star certification and the NAHB Green Certification with a HERS rating of 65.  This rating indicates that this home is 35% more efficient than a home built to current building code standards.  Purposeful design, material and resource choices make for a powerful whole system approach to the home.  Homes by Dickerson’s homes provide a more comfortable and healthy living space, saves money on utilities, and lessens the impact on the environment.

For many, the joy of knowing that they helped a child is enough; knowing their donation helped to purchase needed equipment, fund family support programs and clinical research, stock playrooms with toys and games, build safety and prevention programs and develop many other important projects at Duke Children’s Hospital is just icing on the cake.

The 18th Annual Mix 101.5 Radiothon for Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center will be held February 14-16th,  2012.   Once the Miracle Green Home sells, Homes By Dickerson will present a check to Duke Children’s Hospital for all of the funds raised!
