Best Things to Do in Wendell, NC

1) Shop, Dine & Run Errands in Treelight Square

Treelight Square is part of the Town Center at Wendell Falls, a new master-planned community in Wendell based on new thinking about ways to live and work. At Treelight Square, you can dine, shop, run to the grocery store, meet with friends for after-dinner drinks, or just take a stroll through the landscaped green space. Touted as a major hub in the city of Wendell, Treelight Square will welcome Publix in the fall of 2021, and there’s already a daycare, school, and medical and fire services onsite. Restaurants and shops are coming soon, and there is plenty of modern, convenient commercial and business space, too.

Residents of Wendell Falls will love the accessibility of so many retail and dining opportunities, along with day-to-day conveniences, within a few steps of their front doors. 2) Explore Downtown Wendell

Just three miles from Wendell Falls, downtown Wendell is buzzing with activity and offers yet another destination for dining, shopping, and hanging out — all in one unique place. Come sample from the many food trucks that set up shop daily or opt for local brick-and-mortar eateries and cafés. A few of our favorites are Farmers and Merchants for Southern, Mexican, and Mediterranean-inspired cuisine, Aubreys and Peedies Grill for traditional American diner food, and 41 North Coffee for waffles with toppings and savory quiche.

3) Sample Local Beer and Spirits

North Carolina is fast becoming a craft beer destination, and breweries like the Bearded Bee Brewing Company in the Town of Wendell are keeping pace with the best of them. For locally milled, distilled, and bottle-filled spirits, enjoy the complete Distillery Experience at Oaklee Distilling Company. You never have to travel far to enjoy best-in-class beers, bourbons, vodkas, and more.

4) Buy Fresh at Wendell Farmers Market

North Carolina has some of the most fertile agricultural land in the country, and the proof is in the (delicious and homemade) pudding at the Wendell Farmers Market. Buy locally grown and produced products such as fruits, vegetables, seasoning, meats, prepared foods, soap, candles, and crafts from dozens of vendors each Saturday morning from May 1 through October 2 in downtown Wendell. The WFM serves as a community gathering place and successfully provides access to fresh, locally produced, and safe food for all people.

5) Golf at Wendell Country Club

Known for being “Fun, Fast & Friendly,” Wendell Country Club is an 18-hole course that will challenge you to use every club in your bag. The course adapts to players of different ages and abilities, so everyone can enjoy a round of old-school golf in a gorgeous setting. Follow up with a meal at Divots Grill and you’ll be set for the day!

6) Spend Time Outdoors

If you love canoeing, kayaking, or just spending time out in nature, head for Robertson Millpond Preserve in Wendell. This hidden, 85-acre refuge offers a tranquil, forest-like setting to explore the 1.15-mile looped paddling trail. With tight gaps and larger open areas, it offers a bit of a challenge in some places but overall is a peaceful, relaxing water trek. Teaming with birds, beavers, frogs, turtles, and fish, there are plenty of native animals to observe, and you can also view the 200-year-old mill that created the millpond.

7) Get Festive

There are plenty of festivals and holiday activities that the whole town gathers for. From the International Food & Music Festival to the Spring Fling, there’s an event for every season. And during the holidays people of all ages love the drive-through Wendell Wonderland light show, the Fourth of July parade, and the ever-popular Halloween Treat Trail, complete with hay rides. This town knows how to put on a party, and everyone’s invited!
