All of HBD’s Green Homes for Sale Are RESNET HERS® Rated

What is hers resnet rating

For over 45 years, Homes By Dickerson has been committed to building homes with unmatched craftsmanship and design while displaying a strong set of core principles. You can trust us when we say we build energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly homes. However, the proof is in the results of our home’s third-party RESNET HERS® Rating.

The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) is a scoring system set by the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) to measure a home’s energy efficiency. The lower the HERS number, the more energy efficient the home is. The HERS Reference Home has a rating of 100 on the HERS Index. A typical existing home earns a rating of 130. A standard, code-built home has a rating of 100. Compared to a typical home, a Homes by Dickerson home has an average HERS rating of 56. This means it’s 44% more energy efficient than a standard code-built home.

The RESNET is a nationally recognized and trusted non-profit organization that set the standard for energy efficiency ratings and building certifications in the US. They developed the RESNET HERS® to inspect and calculate a home’s energy performance. Because of the strict testing protocols and its accreditation with the American National Energy Standards Institute as a Standard Development Organization, many states and local governments are opting to include a target HERS Index Score. All inspections are conducted by professional raters who undergo stringent training to be certified, and the HERS Index is a trusted measurement of energy by the federal government and mortgage industry.

Tankless Water Heaters

Tired of the water turning from hot to cold mid-shower? Well, with a tankless water heater, you won’t have to worry about that happening. Tankless water heaters are an essential part of energy-efficient homes. They provide hot water on demand by having cold water travel through the tankless unit and getting heated by gas or electricity. They also provide a constant supply of hot water versus waiting for the tank to fill like with traditional storage tanks. Tankless water heaters are not only energy efficient and give you hot water on demand, but they save you money and space in your home.

Grade 1 Insulation Install

We use 6” fiberglass insulation in our green homes and ensure it will be installed correctly to maximize its potential benefits. The RESNET has a standard outline for grading insulation installation that’s used by HERS raters. There are 3 different grades given to determine installation quality based on missing insulation or voids, gaps, and compression. Our homes have grade 1 insulation installation (the highest grade) meaning there are minor to no defects in the installation.

Low-E Windows

Low-E stands for low emissivity. Our homes use windows made of high-performance glass with a low-E coating which reflects the radiant heat of the sun back outside. It acts as an insulator by keeping the heat inside in the winter and keeps your home cool by reflecting heat in the summer. There are many benefits to having low-E glass such as saving you on energy bills, keeping your home comfortable, they don’t impact the look of your windows, they’re durable, and they protect you, your furniture/curtains, and hardwood floors from UV rays.

Exterior Air Barrier

Homes By Dickerson uses the ZIP System® to help reduce the risk of water vapor moving into the wall system. The air barrier also assists with maintaining conditioned air. Maintaining conditioned air means less energy is needed to recondition the air. Less energy means lower utility bills. And since all building systems must perform well together to optimize the energy efficiency of a home, the savings can add up. This barrier system provides a tighter air barrier assembly than the traditional house wrap you may find with other builders.

Radiant Barrier

It’s no secret that attics can get extremely hot…unless you have a radiant barrier installed. Just like with the windows your home’s roof can absorb the energy and heat radiating from the sun. To avoid that from happening, we install TechShield® in the attic. It’s a radiant energy barrier that can block up to 97% of radiant heat transfer through the roof sheathing, reducing the attic temperature by up to 30° F. TechShield® is an aluminum sheathing material made by Louisiana Pacific (LP), a nationally-recognized building materials manufacturer.
