Our next venture has us traveling away from the Cape Cod-inspired Fairfield Cottage and heading towards the rather transitional Bristol II at Briar Chapel!  Soft hazy hues and nautical decor is replaced by a metropolis loft feel where elegance, rustica, and modern all propitiously converge, resulting in a transitional tone carried in the design.

Whites and taupes are used throughout the floor plan such as the white kitchen cabinetry and taupe kitchen island.  These colors provide almost a paradox as the bright white lends itself to clean lines and is a stark contrast to the warmth of the taupe.  Paradox or not, the colors successfully create and support the intended theme of the home.  Take a moment to peruse your surroundings.  Do you see the Calcutta marble backsplash in the kitchen or the aged antique brass pendants over the island?  It is details such as the dark honey flooring and open shelving in the butlers pantry which provide additional layers of texture and color to this design.  Follow that beautiful dark honey tone upward as it is also included in the wood header between the family room and kitchen as well as at the fireplace mantel.   Also in the family room, the white cortsite ledgestone surround blends wonderfully with the soft gray of the furnishings but also give some composition to the room and open layout.    Another intriguing detail is the “X” trim design used in a myriad of locations including the ceiling, kitchen cabinets and stairway newel posts.  The stairs feature wrought iron handrails, a must to completing the mixture of metals used in this home.  In fact, one of the most compelling features to this Bristol II is the mixture of materials found in all of the light and plumbing fixtures and how well they complement one another as well as the entire decor of the design.

These expansive clay windows enlarge the room and allow for an abundance of natural light.

This study is truly one of my favorite rooms we have ever built.  The incongruous make-up of the custom shelving lends itself to an artistic design.  The lines fondly work together with those of the sliding glass doors.  Paired with the antique brass of the wall lights, the result is wonderfully rustic modern, ready for the big city itself.
