Homes By Dickerson On Parade!

It seems fitting to talk about The Parade of Homes today on this the first day of fall! Even the weather is following suit with cooler temperatures and a scattering of leaves on the ground. We at Homes By Dickerson are excited about the change of seasons but more importantly we are looking forward to the upcoming Parade as we put finishing touches on each of our eight Parade Homes across the Triangle.

Most of you are familiar with the Parade of Homes and all that it entails. Three weekends of Open House opportunities across Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill and surrounding areas where one can “ooh and aah” over incredible structural options, outstanding trim work, great landscaping features and gorgeous interior designs. It is no wonder that this 49th annual event is one of the most popular new home showcases of the year and Homes By Dickerson takes advantage of every moment. As a custom builder we see this as an excellent chance to highlight our strengths of building a home with our five key concepts in mind: Quality, Service, Design, Commitment and Craftsmanship. We are not just putting eight specific homes on Parade but we are putting our company and reputation on Parade as well!

Some builders may consider The Parade as an afterthought, something that is fit into their fall schedule; however, at Homes By Dickerson, we take a different approach where we carefully pick our location, home sites, plans and options for each of our Parade entries early in the year and give ourselves months of planning and design time. We know how important it is for our homes to stand out and “Wow” passersby so we pull out all of the stops from unique design to intricate detail work and complementary furnishings and interior decorating. Months of preparation and care go into each home with no detail overlooked so that each home boasts its own personality and character. We hope that each person that walks through the door feels at home and knows that the quality and attention to detail they see goes into every home we build, whether it is a Parade Home or your future home.

We know you have a lot of options when it comes to viewing Homes on Parade but we encourage you to visit a Dickerson Parade Home during the first three weeks of October:
October 4-5th
October 10-12th
October 17th-19th

Who knows, you may find The Home of Your Life!

Teamwork for good! Over $2900 raised for St. Baldrick’s Foundation

Teamwork for good! Over $2900 raised for St. Baldrick’s Foundation

IMG_9340

So proud of this The Homes by Dickerson Team, led by David Stone, that raised over $2900 for St. Baldrick’s Foundation!  They each worked to raise money to conquer children’s cancers and shaved their heads for a good cause.  The picture above shows the before and after! Homes by Dickerson Project Managers included Ryan Speight, Mike Mehringer, Zach Hohns, and Jonathan Bailey.

Lonerider Brewery hosted a fun and festive event.  Each of the guys were called up to have their head shaved and in an effort to push donations even higher the hairshavers would style and cut their hair in crazy stripes, chunks, mohawks and more! Donations could “save” the shavee from having to leave with a crazy cut!  Here are some pictures of the fun -starting with the before and ending at after!

5 of Homes by Dickerson’s employee’s are teaming up for a good cause – shaving their heads to raise funds for St. Baldrick’s.  Led by David Stone who is doing this for the fourth year in a row, he has recruited Mike Mehringer, Zach Hohns, Ryan Speight and Jonathan Bailey.

They have set a team goal of raising $1000 by April 26th when they will be shaving their heads at Lonerider Brewery.

Worldwide, 175,000 children are diagnosed with cancer each year. In the U.S., more children die of childhood cancer than any other disease—more than AIDS, asthma, cystic fibrosis, congenital anomalies and diabetes combined.  The St. Baldrick’s Foundation exists to change these realities.  By working closely with leading pediatric oncologists, they determine the most promising research to fund and create funding priorities to make the greatest impact for children with cancer.  St. Baldrick’s mission is to find cures for childhood cancers and to give survivors long and healthy lives.  Please help the Homes by Dickerson team reach our fundraising goal by supporting this amazing foundation.

Mix 101.5 Radiothon HBD Cares Check Presentation

Mix 101.5 Radiothon HBD Cares Check Presentation

On February 14th and 15th, 2011, Mix 101.5 hosted their 2 day Radiothon event to raise money for Duke Children’s Hospital.  Over the 2 day period, Bill & Lynda from Mix 101.5 interviewed families and children who have been treated at Duke Children’s hospital.  It was an emotional couple of days, but in the end a record-breaking fundraising event had taken place! Over $1.2 Million dollars was raised for Duke Children’s over those 2 days! An incredible effort on everyone’s part!

Homes by Dickerson was there on Wednesday, our entire office came out to present the check raised from the Miracle Green Home built in George’s Grant.  It was such a great feeling being able to present a check for $108,000 from all of the donations made to the home.  It was truly a collaborative effort to build a home filled with love, joy and hope.   The other great news was that on the same day that we presented the check to the Mix 101.5 Radiothon we received two offers to purchase the home and it is now under contract to close soon.   Congratulations to the soon to be new owners of this beautiful home!

Here are some pictures of the Radiothon and the check presentation:

Thank you again to all of our vendors, partners, REALTORs and agents who pulled together to make donations, and contributions to the Miracle Home.  We could not have done it without you.

Homes by Dickerson Cares is our commitment to giving back to the community where we live, work and play.  Giving back to the community that has given us so much is our goal.  We will soon be looking to consider our next charity project for 2012-2013.  If you would like for us to consider your project- please contact jenn@homesbydickerson.com

A green home for good!

A green home for good!

To see the full article that ran in the News & Observer Saturday December 17, 2011 click here.

It started off initially with just a goal.  A goal of wanting to give back to the community where we live, work and play and it quickly became so much more!

The goal was large.  Homes by Dickerson set out to raise $100,000 for the Mix 101.5 Radiothon for Duke Children’s Hospital from the construction and donations of one of their homes.  But it would not be like any other home they have ever built in 35 years.  This home would be the 2012 Miracle Green Home and would touch the lives of everyone who helped build it, contribute to it, as well as help those treated at Duke Children’s Hospital.

Just as Duke Children’s Hospital aligns themselves with the best doctors and surgeons in the world, Homes by Dickerson looks to align themselves with the best homeowners, vendors, trade partners, and agents in the Triangle.  Sharing similar values of excellence, innovation, leadership and advocacy; they knew that together the project could not fail.

George’s Grant in North Raleigh would be the perfect setting for this life-changing Miracle Green Home.  A 1.6 acre wooded backdrop for the River Forest’ to be built on Lot 6.  14604 Norwood Road would quickly become not just a place, but a home filled with love, joy and hope.  All 3800 square feet would provide an outpouring of support for Duke Children’s.  Vendors, trade partners, local businesses and real estate agents went above and beyond to make their contributions to the home and the fundraising total continued to rise.   Many shared their personal stories or stories of friends and families that have traveled from all over the world to be treated at Duke and we are so fortunate to have Duke Children’s Hospital right here in the Triangle.

Homes by Dickerson is committed to building all of their homes with high performance green features and this home is no different.  The River Forest bears the Energy Star certification and the NAHB Green Certification with a HERS rating of 65.  This rating indicates that this home is 35% more efficient than a home built to current building code standards.  Purposeful design, material and resource choices make for a powerful whole system approach to the home.  Homes by Dickerson’s homes provide a more comfortable and healthy living space, saves money on utilities, and lessens the impact on the environment.

For many, the joy of knowing that they helped a child is enough; knowing their donation helped to purchase needed equipment, fund family support programs and clinical research, stock playrooms with toys and games, build safety and prevention programs and develop many other important projects at Duke Children’s Hospital is just icing on the cake.

The 18th Annual Mix 101.5 Radiothon for Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center will be held February 14-16th,  2012.   Once the Miracle Green Home sells, Homes By Dickerson will present a check to Duke Children’s Hospital for all of the funds raised!
